Korrasami Canon Status + IGN Interview [Update to an Anon Response]
First I like to thank you for being civil. It’s refreshing. But let’s get down to business.
As a general rule, I do not like to use external sources as evidence. Nevertheless, that IGN interview didn’t confirm nor denied Korrasami or Makorra.
And here is the conversation in question (my linguistics training is finally coming in handy) :
Bold = emphasis on the word during conversation
[Italics] = actions during conversation
Bryan: You can’t make-there…is…no way…to make everybody happy.
Roth: I feel like Korrasami’s the way.
Mike: [suddenly laughs]
Bryan: [jerks head to the left, silent]
Bryan: It…is a way.
Mike: It’s a way. It’s a valid way.
Bryan: It’s, it’s a great way.
Mike: If you enjoy that, we love it.
Bryan: [plays with his cup] It’s totally-it’s a good way. But like, there is no way to satisfy everyone and in the end of the day, I mean, you just have to tell the story that you wanted to tell. And put it out there. You start second guessing everything like, “whoa, I better see how many tumblr pages are dedicated to this ship and then “well, but wait! There’s fewer of these but they’re a little better quality”. You know, if that’s how you’re going to write and create…you’re going to make a crappy show and so we just, we just, like, tell the story that Mike and I and writers feel we like and, and sometimes…people like it, sometimes…they don’t, you know-I’m sure everyone in this room have have something different-[unintelligible]
Mike: [interjects] And then there’s [shrugs] still people who want Mako and Korra to get back together. So, you know, we got them all [looks at Bryan, tilts head low, grinning].
Bryan: [lays head on his knuckles] Yup.
Mike: [makes circular movements with his hands] Every possible pairing.
If your interpretation was that Korrasami was shut down, you’re sadly mistaken. They could have laughed and moved on but they didn’t. They answered the question seriously and with how Mike said, "And then there’s still people who want Mako and Korra to get back together.” could have been read (especially on the emphasis on the “still”, his shrug and low grin) as, “oh boy, they’re in a for a nasty surprise”. In the end, they spoke more about Korrasami then they did on Makorra and Makorra was mentioned by Mike as an afterthought. Not only that but after they responded to the Korrasami remark, Bryan just went back to the topic at hand which was that there is no way to satisfy everyone.
